Could It Have Been Sweeter!

On Saturday evening 14 June, 54 adults and five children attended the Texas Memorial Hall to be entertained by three sweet ladies who lit up the stage with the much-anticipated cabaret show Sugar! Sugar!

By Robyn Griffin

Although there were to be four ladies from Candy Shop Show Australia, one was unfortunately ill and could not attend at the last minute.

Not to be stumped, they learnt the songs and moves of the other and put on a brilliant show.

We were taken back in time and experienced the glitz and glamour of Sugar, Sugar!–a sensational journey through the iconic music and dance of the 1940s, ’50s, ’60s,and’70s.From the smooth swing and big band hits of the wartime era to the vibrant nifty fifties, the groove of the swingin’ sixties, as well as the disco fever of the seventies, this electrifying production brought four decades of unforgettable entertainment to life.

As things started to warmup, attendees joined in with the singing and dancing, forgetting the rather cold night outside. Those who did not attend certainly missed out on a fantastic night. The performers were very professional and entertaining.

It would be great if they could return again next year, in partnership with the Texas Arts Council
