Texas Garden Club
The garden club met at Lucy and Don’s garden on what was a very chilly morning–a real taste of winter.
President Mary welcomed us all to the garden including two new members–Paul and Jenny. It was a great gathering with 23 members attending and our thoughts were with our four members who were unable to be with us. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning tea and chat.
Our meeting started with Heather speaking about the visit to Behind the Hedge. It was a wonderful day with lessons about the trees and the garden’s life. We have been invited to return in Spring.
We discussed two more trips away during the year but nothing is set in concrete yet.
We also discussed and added another section to our flower categories each month. Take note–we now have 1.Single Stem, 2.Single Stem Clusterand 3. Vase of three to five flowers.
This month’s winners were as follows: Single flower–1st Paul’s pink Rose, 2nd MaryS’s Iris, 3rd Jenny’s red Rose. Vase of flowers–1st Paul’s Carnation, 2nd Merrilyn’s small Roses, 3rd Judy’s Zygocactus
Congratulations to all the winners. Without your support each month there would be no section.
The raffle was won by Marie and the Lucky Door by Jenny. Congratulations.
Birthdays for June were celebrated by June, Mary G. Lucy and Irene. We wish you all a happy and enjoyable birthday.
An easy quiz from Merrilyn was won by Jon. Well done Our next meeting will beat Theresa’s garden in High Street. Prizes for that will be donated by Lucky Door–Shirley, Raffle prize–Gen.
Hint for Winter–The best plants to plant in Winter are Pansies and Violas as they can withstand the cold. As can Dusty Millers or flowering cabbage or Kate. Snapdragons can also hold their own in containers or beds.
Think on these–What kind of socks does a gardener wear? Garden Hose... Why didn’t anyone laugh at the gardener’s jokes? Because they were corny.
Gardening is a way of showing that you believe in tomorrow(Unknown) Happy gardening and stay safe and warm until our next meeting on July 3rd.
See you all then
