“A noble concept executed very, very badly”, says Mayor: Inland Rail is disappointment to many
November 2001 - The inauguration of the Australian Inland Rail Expressway, Melbourne to Goondiwindi line, on the banks of the MacIntyre River at Goondiwindi. Then-Deputy Prime Minister, John Anderson AC (pictured below - far right) planted a river gum and unveiled a commemorative plaque, while the Chairman of the Australian Transport and Energy Corridor, Everald Compton AO (second from left) drove a silver rail spike into a granite boulder to signify the commencement of the project. Also pictured is Former Member for Maranoa the Hon Bruce Scott AM (left) and Former Member for Hinkler the late Paul Neville OAM.
