Additional columbarium to support future interments in Texas
Additional niche wall capacity will soon be available at the Texas Cemetery, with Goondiwindi Regional Council currently installing a new columbarium with fifty niches to meet future community needs. The $30,000 project sees the construction and installation of the new niche wall adjacent to the existing columbarium, providing additional interment capacity for the community.
Council’s portfolio holder for Community Facilities, Cr Susie Kelly, said the project reflected Council’s commitment to improving important community facilities across the region.
“Our cemeteries and columbaria are dignified resting places for loved ones and hold deep significance as places of remembrance and reflection for many families, and it is important that these spaces continue to meet the needs of our community,” said Cr Kelly.
“The installation of these additional niches will provide more capacity for future interments, allowing families to continue honouring and remembering loved ones here in Texas.
“While this might not seem like a relatively large project, it is an important one that will support our community well into the future and help maintain a service that many local families value,” Cr Kelly.
Works have commenced and the new columbarium available to the public soon, helping the facility continue to accommodate the needs of local families for years to come.
The facility is maintained by Council’s Texas town maintenance crew and forms part of a network of cemeteries managed by Council across the region, including Goondiwindi, Inglewood and Yelarbon.
