Congratulations Hazel on 100 years
Family and friends gathered at the Texas Sports Complex recently to celebrate the 100th birthday of long time Texas resident Hazel Saunders (nee Burley). Hazel was born on 1st June 1926 in Nurse Kidd’s house in Greenup Street. She worked briefly in Bingara where she met Reg Saunders. They married in Texas in 1945. Reg (deceased) and Hazel went on to have two sons, Brian (deceased) and Terry. Hazel retired to Warwick 25 years ago.

Many would remember Hazel from her working at Young’s Café and from her involvement in the Texas Football Club. Hazel and Reg spent many years working tirelessly in many capacities whilst supporting the club. Their sons were also active players and members. To honour their commitment to the club, Hazel, Reg, Brian and his wife Rhonda were awarded life membership.
With Terry and Steph, Rhonda, her four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild in attendance, a great day was had on Saturday 6 June recalling and celebrating Hazel’s 100 years. Friends, old and new, joined in the wonderful atmosphere and enjoyed an entertaining afternoon with songs and stories.
Hazel was heard to say, “It is so wonderful to look out and see so many faces that I know and remember”.
Congratulations Hazel on attaining 100 years…. A life well lived.
