Council completes kitchen upgrades at Texas Memorial Hall
Goondiwindi Regional Council has completed a $40,000 upgrade of the Texas Memorial Hall kitchen, providing a practical and user-friendly space for community groups, event organisers and residents.

The improvements address community concerns within the existing kitchen and support the Texas community for years to come.
The Texas Memorial Hall hosts school events, weekly Sing Australia rehearsals, community and fundraising events, family celebrations, Council meetings and more. It is an integral element of the local community connectedness and important community asset.
Upgrades include the installation of two new stacked ovens alongside the existing oven, improving cooking capacity and accessibility. Gastronorm trays have been purchased ensuring new ovens can be fully utilised and compatible with the bain-marie. The dishwasher has been relocated to create a more practical and efficient workspace. Additional power outlets have also been installed throughout the facility, providing greater flexibility for users during events and catering activities. The original cold room compressor has also been replaced along with installation of a new thermostat.
Due to the age and condition of parts of the existing kitchen, some sections could not be repaired and required replacement. As part of the refurbishment, outdated cupboards have been replaced with stainless-steel open shelving along with an additional small bench. A new stainless-steel splashback has also been installed, along with a two-door display fridge to increase food storage capacity.
Cr Susie Kelly, Portfolio holder for Rural Services, Community Facilities and Technology, said the upgrades reflect Council’s commitment to maintaining and improving community facilities across the region.
“Having recognised the need for upgrades, our Facilities Manager and I met with representatives of groups who use the Texas Memorial Hall to ascertain their specific kitchen needs. Having taken their requirements and wishes on board, I am proud of the improvements which enhance the hall and support a more practical and usable kitchen.”
“Thank you to the many people who were engaged in this consultation process and gave input to ensure the enhancements and modifications are exactly what was needed.”
“Council is proud to invest in infrastructure that supports our communities and helps ensure local facilities remain functional and fit for purpose for years to come.”
Council thanks the Texas community for its patience during the upgrade works and looks forward to seeing the improved facility continue to serve the community well into the future.
