It is estimated there are currently 85,200 people living with dementia in Queensland, and without a medical breakthrough, this number is expected to rise to more than 168,300 by 2054.

The Dementia Australia sessions provide an opportunity for people living with dementia, their carers, family, and friends to learn more about the condition and explore the support and services available. Bookings are essential for all sessions.

The program begins in Texas on Monday, 3 November 2025, with a session focused on the support available within the dementia landscape. Local organisations will also share information about their work supporting people living with dementia (See notice this page for more details).

On Tuesday, 4 November, Goondiwindi will host the Worried About Your Memory session, which offers information on memory changes that can occur with ageing, strategies to improve memory, guidance on when to seek help, and details of services provided by Dementia Australia.

Goondiwindi will also host an Understanding Dementia session, introducing participants to the different types of dementia, diagnosis, planning ahead, and how to support someone living with the condition.

While Texas is already recognised as a Dementia-Friendly Community, those in or around Goondiwindi who are passionate about creating a community where everyone is valued, understood, and supported are encouraged to attend the Dementia-Friendly Community session. A dementia-friendly community is one where people living with dementia feel empowered, respected, and included in all aspects of life.

On Wednesday, 5 November, the Dementia Supports & Networking Session will be held, inviting local organisations to discuss how they are supporting people living with dementia. This session is open to anyone in the community.

Also on Wednesday, Goondiwindi will host the Carers Wellness Program, which focuses on the health and wellbeing of those caring for a person living with dementia—whether that person lives with them or elsewhere. Carers may include partners, family members, and friends.

The program concludes in Goondiwindi on Thursday, 6 November, with EDIE for Family Carers. This innovative session uses virtual reality technology to help participants experience the world through the eyes of a person living with dementia, enhancing understanding and empathy.
