Disabled Zone at Front of Foodworks High Street, Texas
I am generally relaxed with minor traffic infractions committed in the area. A friendly chat and reminder of the rules is often all that is needed to change people’s behaviour for the better.

One issue that is coming up time and time again, and I am receiving multiple complaints, is the use of the disabled zone at the front doors of Foodworks, Texas by able bodied people, with no disabled permit.
Texas has an ageing population and there are many people in the area who have applied for and have legitimately received disabled parking zone permits. This allows them to safely exit and enter their vehicle and have a short walk into the shops and further allows Foodworks Staff to assist these people with loading their groceries.
I have little tolerance for those inconsiderate people who continue to utilize the disabled zone at the front door of Foodworks.
Some Frequently asked and answered questions:
Q:“Can I stop in the disabled zone and stay in my car whilst somebody runs in to get something?”
A:“No. The offence is to “stop” in the zone. Don’t be lazy, walk”
Q:“I’m using a relative’s vehicle which has a disabled parking permit in their glovebox. I’m even getting groceries for them. Can I display their permit and stop in the disabled zone.”
A:“No. The permit is attached to the person, not the vehicle. Don’t be lazy walk.”
Q:“Can I borrow a friend’s disabled permit and display it in my vehicle as if it’s my own?”
A:“If you tell the Police lies about who the permit is issued to and you are found to be using a permit unlawfully you are committing further offences than just the parking ticket. “Don’t be lazy, walk”
Q:“I hurt my leg/arm/wrist/tailbone/ spine/finger/toe/feelings. Can I use the disabled parking zone whilst I am injured?”
A:“No you can’t. Otherwise, everyone could come up with a similar contrived excuse. Disabled permits will be issued for people with legitimate disabilities.”
Q:“Can I receive an infringement notice from the Police for parking in the disabled zone without cause?”
A:“Yes. The offence for “Stopping in a parking area for people with disabilities” comes under Section 203(1)(a) of the TORUM Road Rules, which attracts a $690 fine. I know I couldn’t afford that ticket.
