The basket was made by the women of Women’s Power of Inspirations (WIP) and presented by Ms Gail Ker OAM, who joined the Inglewood and Texas communities as an ambassador during the 2026 Australia Day celebrations.

Created by hand and made with care, the basket reflects values that are second nature in our small towns – people looking out for one another, sharing stories, and lending a hand when it’s needed.

Through her long-standing work with culturally diverse women, refugees and migrants, including her leadership with WIP, Ms Ker has helped create welcoming spaces where women come together to talk, create and support one another. In these spaces, handcrafts such as weaving, knitting and crochet become a way to connect, build confidence and feel a sense of belonging.

Like our region itself, the basket tells a story of many hands and many lives – different threads coming together to create something strong, useful and lasting.

This handcrafted artwork is currently on display at Goondiwindi Regional Council’s Inglewood Customer Service Centre.
