Old Denim, New Designs: Texas Students Get Creative
Students studying Year 10 Food and Fibre at Texas School are giving old denim a new lease on life through an exciting project combining sustainability, fashion and art.

The girls have been repurposing denim to create individually designed pieces of fabric, transforming pre-loved materials into unique works of art. Alongside their contribution to a larger collaborative project, the students have also put their sewing skills to the test by designing and making their very own denim handbags, giving them a practical and stylish creation to take home.
Each individually designed fabric piece will become part of a collaborative mural, showcasing the creativity and personal flair of the students. The finished mural will be exhibited at the local art gallery as part of the Texas School exhibition in October and November.
The project highlights how everyday materials can be transformed into something both beautiful and useful, while encouraging students to think creatively about sustainability and reducing waste.
The community will have the opportunity to admire the students’ hard work and creativity when the exhibition opens in late October, celebrating the skills, imagination and growing confidence of Texas School’s young designers.
