Proposed Veteran Cars to Visit Texas

The Veteran Car Club Australia (Queensland) Inc., formed in 1956, is dedicated to the conservation, restoration and use of pre-1919 Veteran motor vehicles with a view to sharing the secrets of this motoring history from a bygone era with anyone who may be interested.

This dedication resulted in the building of a clubhouse in Carindale, Brisbane some 40 years ago.

You can follow the group on their website - www.vccaq.com or on their Facebook page - “VCCAQ Cars”.

The group has started a tradition of holding a “President’s Rally” and this year President Graham Donges has chosen to make it a “Hometown Rally” to show members the country with which he was familiar growing up.

Some 20-25 pre-1919 vehicles will be trailered to Texas and each day, for four days, May 21-24, members will be driving the vehicles around the district, a maximum of 130 kms in a day.

This is your opportunity to see these historic vehicles up close and for FREE!

Each morning they will assemble in Kemp Street outside the entrance of the Showgrounds. You are welcome to be there and inspect the vehicles as they depart for the day’s journey.

On Thursday 21st May, the first day of travelling, they will drive to Inglewood for morning tea and park mainly at the Apex Lions Park on the Cunningham Highway before heading to Greenup Meeting Place for lunch.

On Friday May 22nd you can see the vehicles when the members visit the Texas Heritage Centre and Tobacco Museum and the Railway Museum where they will enjoy morning tea, before heading off to Bonshaw Primary School for lunch with the staff, students and parents.

The Saturday run, May 23rd, is down to the church at Glenarbon for morning tea. Graham was born in Texas but grew up just across the road from this church. For lunch they will head down to the Bushland Hideaway on the Dumaresq River before returning to Texas on the NSW side of the river.

Sunday, May 24th, is the main display day for the cars. They will be parked at the Rabbit Freezing Works along with all the special cars that are loved by people around town and some from far away. The members would love to share this time with you all. They will then travel to Goat Rock for their final lunch before returning to Texas and leaving for home.

Hope to see you there!
