It was a proud and memorable weekend for Texas State School’s Brock Dawson, who represented Darling Downs at the Queensland Regional School Sport Cross Country Trials held at Nudgee College, Brisbane, from July 18–20.

Competing in the 16 years boys 6km event, Brock ran an amazing race, finishing in 21 minutes and 34 seconds — placing 37th in his age group out of 103 of the state’s best 16 and 17 year old runners. He was also the third Darling Downs athlete across the line out of the 12 competing in his race, confirming his place among the region’s top performers.

On Sunday, Brock backed up his strong performance in the team relay event, where the top five runners from each region competed. Running the fourth leg for Darling Downs, he powered through his 1.5km leg in just 4 minutes and 38 seconds, helping his team to a strong finish and ending his 2025 cross country campaign on a high.

This year marked Brock’s fifth consecutive appearance at the state cross country trials, having proudly represented Texas State School and Darling Downs every year since under 12s.

With Texas State School finishing at Year 10, Brock will move to Toowoomba in 2026 to continue his schooling and sporting journey, leaving his training buddy and PE Teacher Lochlan Doughty behind.

“I was really happy with my times this year,” Brock said. “I always love representing my hometown and the Darling Downs – it’s something I’m really proud of, and I really appreciate all the support I get from so many people, including my family and friends, and Mr Doughty.
