Road Trip to Mole River Nursery - Texas Garden Club
The September meeting of the Texas Garden Club took the form of a visit to Mole Station Native Nursery. Owned by David and Sarah Caldwell, the nursery is situated on Mole Station, a 2915-hectare sheep and cattle property and is a wholesale and mail order retail nursery. An appointment is necessary to visit the nursery. Contact details are found on their website http://www.moleriver nursery.com/

We were warmly welcomed by Sarah who explained a little of how the nursery works. A beautiful spring morning allowed morning tea to be had in the garden surrounded by natural and native plantings and delightful birdsong. Tea, coffee, cake and fruit were provided by the ladies from the Tenterfield Red Cross.
Members were shown the various igloos and planting and propagating areas. Informative talks were given in each of these and we hope to put this to good use in our gardens! As we made our way to the shade house, we noted the many beautiful and different trees and shrubs in flower. This whetted our appetites with possibilities for our home gardens.
Sarah and staff were most obliging and were overwhelmed with the many questions and queries as we tried to decide on plant purchases!! After the rains of late (and hopefully to come) we should see many beautiful new shrubs growing and flowering in the gardens in Texas!!
The next Garden Club meeting will be held on Thursday 2 October in the garden of Brian and Annette Mearns, Flemming Street. All welcome.
‘Green Fingers’ returns next month!
