Run Club

In 2026, Mr Doughty, Texas School Health and Physical Education Teacher, started an afterschool run club for students. The aim of run club is to make running fun and inclusive for everyone. This is done by focusing on participation over performance, building confidence, improving fitness and working towards cross country and athletics for the students who want to advance themselves.

Students are split into age groups according to their year level...

  • Little Striders: Prep – Year 2

  • Middle Movers: Year 3 – Year 6

  • Pace Setters: Year 7 – Year 10

Little Striders focus on games and short runs, trying to keep it fun and enjoyable.

Middle Movers still have game aspects but start to build endurance running with activities such as relay games and distance running.

The Pace Setters focus is on building confidence as well as fitness while keeping it fun and enjoyable. Activities include interval runs and longer endurance runs, with some training in techniques.

Run club celebrates students’ effort more than achievement, encouraging the achievement of personal goals. Mr Doughty wants students to change their mindset and think “I can do this” not “I’m bad at running”.

Run club would not be possible without the dedication of Mr Doughty and his merry band of helping teachers who make this very special effort to serve our school and community. It is very much appreciated.

Cross Country News

Directly linked to run club, is the Texas school cross country which was held at the end of Term 1. The students had a lovely day, getting very involved in the spirit of the event by dressing in costumes in the colour of their sporting house. There was much cheering and celebration and some excellent running.

At the beginning of Term 2 Texas hosted the Macintyre Zone Cross Country Trials where schools from across the Macintyre district came to Texas to brave our tough cross country course at the Texas Golf Club. There were many competitors. Tyson, Indyanna, Baxter, Lochie C and Mitch will represent the Macintyre Schools at the upcoming Darling Downs Cross Country Championships after fantastic performances at the event.
