‘Sing Australia Texas — Sharing the Joy of Song

The members of Sing Australia Texas were delighted to welcome the students and staff from Gold Coast Christian College during their recent visit to Texas.

The happy group joined us for our weekly singing session, bringing extra enthusiasm and voices — especially those much-appreciated male voices!

With their teacher Helen leading the way, one student, Annabell, was ‘volunteered’ by her Mum/teacher Mel to be our conductor for the day. Despite having no previous experience, Annabell was a natural, and both she and Helen brought so much fun and energy to the morning.

After singing, everyone enjoyed morning tea together. The students were keen to chat with ‘the locals’ and learn about life in Texas — creating wonderful connections between generations.

In the afternoon, we all travelled up to Mingoola Place Aged Care, where we were privileged to sing for the staff, residents, and their families. It was heartening to see so many join in, singing along and enjoying the music. We were treated to extra tunes too — one young man played guitar and sang beautifully, while two of the young ladies played and sang the ukulele, delighting everyone. Afternoon tea at Mingoola Place gave the students a special chance to chat with the residents about their lives and memories of days gone by.

We’d like to thank the Gold Coast Christian College for visiting and joining in so wholeheartedly, and the staff and residents at Mingoola Place for hosting us. The students are a credit to their families, teachers, and their College. We look forward to seeing them again next year to ‘sing up a storm’ with us!

On a different note, a few — but nonetheless enthusiastic singers - from Sing Australia Texas, along with our amazing accompanist Kath, were pleased to accept an invitation to sing at the monthly gathering of the Glenarbon Birthday Girls at the TADDS Hub in Texas.

We were warmly welcomed and joined in with the fun morning’s activities and shared Christmas-themed songs and hymns. The Birthday Girls joined in the singing too, making the day extra special. Alongside our loyal male member Phil, we were delighted to have Iain join with us in the singing — thank you, Iain! We all agree you’re welcome to join us every week.

A big thank you to the Glenarbon Birthday Girls for such a fun day. We warmly invite any of you — and other community members — to come along any time and experience the joy of singing, make new friends, and connect with your community.

We enjoyed the ‘Christmas in July’ theme singing at ‘Owenbrook’ Aged Care in Inglewood on Wednesday 23 July 2025.

Sing Australia Texas meets every Wednesday — we’d love to have you join us!
