For our celebration on the seventeenth of March, the weather in Texas was rather warm for an outdoor performance with the local magpie family joining in with the singing of some good old Irish songs. We sang a few songs before the morning tea arrived and we enjoyed speaking with some of the residents whilst having a cuppa, or some green lemonade, and cakes and biscuits decorated beautifully in green icing. Then it was back to our sing-along where we were accompanied by our very talented accompanist, Kath Venables. Many of the residents sang along with us.

The following day, we travelled to Owenbrook to provide some cheer with a repertoire of Irish and Australian songs. We had such a wonderful day, as did the residents, who invited us to return. After we bid everyone goodbye, we had a very nice meal at the Inglewood Bowls Club.

Sing Australia is a national network of singing groups for everyone. You don’t have to read music and you don’t have to be an opera singer to join our group. Singing together contributes to health and well-being and provides an opportunity for community connection and friendship.

You are invited to attend our weekly get-togethers in the Texas Memorial Hall each Wednesday morning.
