The show, rich in colour, character and connection to rural life, features two distinctive but harmonious perspectives on the Australian landscape and domestic experience.

Terri-Ann Crothers, who has strong family ties to Goondiwindi and Yelarbon, brings an expressive and joyful lens to her surroundings. Her work, filled with vibrant colour palettes and spontaneous brushwork, reflects everyday moments on the land– cattle, paddocks, big skies– all infused with an energy that celebrates rural living.

“I paint to capture the life we have on our property,” Crothers said, “but with an added infusion of colour to reflect my personality and outlook on life.” With a background in visual arts, fashion retail and communications, Crothers has exhibited widely and remains passionate about bringing joy and connection to her audience through both her paintings and community workshops.

Peta Moore, an accomplished artist and teacher, who lived at Yetman for a while and also taught at Texas P 10 State School, presents mixed media works that blend abstraction, expressionism and bold mark-making. Her pieces range from outback scenes to the charm of farmyard guinea fowl, each one layered with a unique balance of energy and stillness.

“The first layers are done with urgency, but later stages are calm and meditative,” Moore explains. “I hope viewers find a place to settle in the image, wherever they feel most comfortable.” The exhibition drew strong interest from those who attended the opening, with many works finding new homes already.

Home and Away is on display at the Texas Regional Art Gallery until August 1st, and offers a rare opportunity to experience the vibrancy of regional Australia through the eyes of two passionate and deeply connected artists. Don’t miss your chance to view this inspiring body of work.
