Texas Celebrates 11 Years of Festival of Small Halls
On Sunday 12 October, Texas hosted the Festival of Small Halls for the eleventh consecutive year. Texas is the only town to hold this honour, and the audience was not disappointed with the entertainment provided by Joe H Henry (Canada) and Georgia Mooney (Australia).

Audience members began rolling up well before showtime, eager to see the singers. Organisers of The Festival of Small Halls have never disappointed us, and this year was no exception.
Georgia Mooney, who hails from Sydney, took to the stage, introduced by MC David Hayward. Following her introduction, she explained that she found it interesting that having left her band, All Our Exes Live in Texas, she gets to perform in the town of Texas. She has been on solo writing trips all over the world, and her stories in song reflect this. Georgia accompanied herself first on a handmade dulcimer which she won in a raffle and then on a piano keyboard.
Joe H Henry left home in the Red River Valley when he was just 13 years old and spent his younger years riding freight trains from town to town with nothing but a faithful dog and a guitar. He has a great voice and loves story telling through song. He eventually settled on North Mountain, Nova Scotia in 2020 with his wife and five children. Joe played both an acoustic guitar and an electric guitar and his songs were filled with vision and great music.
About three dozen people attended the show, including three Councillors. A visitor from Stanthorpe was heard to say that they couldn’t believe the quality of artists who are attracted to our town to perform. They said they had had an exceptional night of entertainment. We hope to see both these entertainers return.
Thanks to the support of the Goondiwindi Regional Council and the Texas Arts Council we can provide this great entertainment for only a small cost. We hope that we can host the Festival of Small Halls again next year.
