Texas & District Kindergarten Needs Community Support to Stay Open

Since opening its doors in 1958, Texas & District Kindergarten has been a much-loved part of the local community, providing generations of children with their first experiences of learning, friendship and play.

For more than sixty years, the kindergarten has been supported by a volunteer committee that helps to manage the service and raise funds for essential costs such as wages, rates, insurance, work cover, electricity, affiliate fees and resources.

As 2026 approaches, the kindy is facing a shortage of committee members and is calling on parents, grandparents and community members to help ensure the service can continue. Without new volunteers stepping forward, the kindergarten may be forced to close.

The 2026 Committee is now seeking interested community members to fill several key positions. All committee members are required to hold a Blue Card, and guidance will be provided for anyone new to the roles.

Positions available include:

* President – coordinates functions, guides meetings, oversees finances and service paperwork, and represents the kindy.

* Vice President – supports the President and shares leadership duties.

* Treasurer – manages financial planning, payments, payroll, and prepares for the annual audit.

The kindergarten’s teaching team, Mrs Debbie and Mrs Marie, bring many years of experience in early childhood education. Their program is guided by the values of Respect, Playfulness, Empowerment, Trust, Honesty and Knowledge, and provides a safe, nurturing, play-based environment for children to grow and learn.

Joining the committee is a practical and meaningful way to give back to the community, support local families and help keep the kindy open for future generations.

Anyone interested in learning more or offering support is encouraged to contact Texas & District Kindergarten directly. Even a small contribution of time or expertise can make a big difference.

Together, we can keep Texas & District Kindergarten a place of joy, learning and community connection — now and into the future.
