Texas Golfers head to Miles
The Texas Golf Club put together a championship-calibre performance over the weekend, turning the Queensland Sand Greens Championships in Miles into a showcase of grit, depth, and club pride.

Ten Texas members, joined by former member and tour leader Greg, made the trip with three goals in mind: have fun, compete hard and represent the club well.
From the opening tee shot on Friday to the final putt on Sunday, they delivered on all fronts.
The weekend opened with a 4BBB on Friday, where Geoff and Tim set the early pace for Texas, posting a superb score of 43.
Saturday morning tested the resolve of the field, with cool, frosty, and bitterly cold conditions greeting the early starters.
Three brave Texas players were among the first off the tee, laying the groundwork for what would become a dominant two-day campaign.
When the dust settled after 36 holes, Texas claimed both first and second in C Grade. Past president Ben produced a standout performance to take out the Ray Andersen Plate as the overall C Grade champion, with Grant pushing hard to finish a close runner-up. Ben also claimed the C Grade gross on Day 2, while Grant added second place in the C Grade net overall.
Strong performances continued across the grades.
Jordan finished tied 10th in B Grade gross, secured third in the B Grade net overall, and topped it off by winning the B Grade net on Day 1.
Mitch added a highlight moment on Sunday, launching a drive long enough to claim a long-drive prize.
Congratulations and thanks to the Miles Golf Club and their volunteers for hosting the 2026 Championships.
Back at home, Thursday’s competition went down to the wire, with Phil edging out PC on a countback after both finished with a net 18 on the back nine. Barry was the lone pin-shot winner on the day, taking honours on the 15th.
Sunday’s flag event was played by remaining club members, with Carlos producing a quality round to win the men’s event, while Andrea claimed the ladies’ honours. Pins were claimed by Des on the 3rd, Andrea on the 7th and 12th, with the 8th left untouched.
The club also extends its thanks to the DDGA and, in particular, City Golf Club for their support and sponsorship of the recent DDGA Sand Greens event. Their ongoing backing of smaller Darling Downs clubs continues to make a real difference.
Looking ahead, Club Championships will be held on the weekend of June 20 and 21, with nominations open with Captain Di. Our annual Open follows on Saturday, August 2, with more details to be shared via flyers and Facebook.
Congratulations once again to all Texas representatives from Miles. The benchmark has been set—and the challenge now passes to the ladies as they head to Taroom this weekend.
