Tour to Goondiwindi by Texas Volunteers
Recently on Tuesday the 23rd of September, ten volunteers from the Texas Historical Society and Rabbit Works journeyed to Goondiwindi to take part in a tour of Goondiwindi Cotton’s working cotton farm “Alcheringa”, the Custom’s House Museum for morning tea and the Goondiwindi Cotton fashion House.

This informative tour was organised by the Goondiwindi Regional Council’s Visitor Experience Co-Ordinator, Yasmin Taylor.
The group met with Yasmin and Mike (the tour bus driver) at the Goondiwindi Information Centre and set out for a two-hour tour of “Alcheringa”. Mike was very informative about the changes that have been made in the production of cotton over the many years that cotton has been grown in Australia.
They then drove to the Customs House Museum for a lovely morning tea put on by the Goondiwindi Regional Council, a viewing of the new war museum display (brilliant) and also a browse around the rest of the museum. They also had a chance to meet with members of the Information Centre and Museum.
This was a very productive day for all those who attended as they now know much more about the cotton industry and about the history of Goondiwindi and who to contact for further information about our district.
