Community Invited to Celebrate Opening of New Inglewood Gym
The Inglewood community is benefiting from a major upgrade to the Inglewood MacIntyre Sports Complex, with a new purpose-built gym now complete.

The new facility is nearly double the size of the existing gym footprint and includes new gym equipment, an outdoor access option for classes, improved storage for community groups, Wi-Fi and enhanced CCTV security at the site, and solar to offset the gym’s costs.
Members are now able to access the new facility, which will deliver improved health and fitness opportunities while enhancing the functionality and security of the wider Sports Complex.
All residents are invited to attend the official opening on Saturday 14 November, where they can tour the facility, learn more about membership options and see firsthand the benefits the new gym will bring to the Inglewood community.
The new gym replaces the former facility housed within the flood-damaged Inglewood Recreation Centre. In addition to modern fitness facilities, the building includes valuable storage space for rugby, social sport and other local community groups.
As part of the project, the entire Sports Complex now has Wi-Fi capability, improved CCTV coverage and additional solar infrastructure to help offset the significant electricity costs associated with operating the gym.
The project is a key outcome of the Inglewood MacIntyre Sports Complex Master Plan, which was developed through community consultation and identified the Sports Complex as the preferred location for centralising future recreation and sporting infrastructure.
Mayor of Goondiwindi Regional Council, the Honourable Cr Lawrence Springborg AM, said the project reflects the long-term vision established by the community following the 2021 floods.
“This facility represents a significant investment in the health, wellbeing and liveability of Inglewood and delivers on priorities identified through the Sports Complex Master Plan,” Cr Springborg said.
“Following the 2021 flood, the community supported a long-term vision that focused investment on modern facilities at the Sports Complex rather than restoring ageing infrastructure at the Recreation Centre - estimated at more than $800,000 to repair the building to current building standards,” he said. “It is pleasing to see that vision realised with a facility that will serve residents, sporting clubs and gym members for many years to come.
“Importantly, the project also delivers broader benefits for the precinct through improved digital connectivity, enhanced security and infrastructure that will help manage the ongoing costs of operating the facility.
The project represents a total investment of more than $400,000 in community infrastructure. In addition to ACCIONA Energía’s $250,000 contribution, the project received $80,000 through the Queensland Government’s Community Benefit Fund, with the balance funded by Goondiwindi Regional Council.
“Council sincerely thanks ACCIONA Energía for its contribution towards this project,” Cr Springborg said. “Partnerships such as this help deliver community infrastructure that creates lasting benefits for local residents.”
ACCIONA Energía Managing Director, Gavin Reymond, said the completion of the gym was an exciting outcome for the community.
“We are proud to see this important community project completed and ready for use. The new gym is a lasting investment in the health and wellbeing of Inglewood residents and reflects our commitment to working with council to support initiatives that create a legacy community benefit.”
Councillor Kym Skinner, who holds Council’s Education and Lifestyle portfolio, said the facility would provide a significant boost for local recreation opportunities.
“This is a modern, purpose-built facility that responds directly to community needs. It provides improved training opportunities for gym members while also delivering practical benefits for local sporting clubs through additional storage spaces,” Cr Skinner said.
“The additional Wi-Fi, CCTV and supporting infrastructure strengthen the Sports Complex as a whole and improve the experience for the many groups and residents who use the precinct. This builds on previously completed masterplan activities including new field lighting, automatic irrigation and field re-alignment.
“We look forward to seeing the community make the most of this fantastic new asset,” she said
